Justice for Bryant Worrell and Family! End Police Corruption and Brutality in the African Community!

During the early morning hours of June 17, 2008 21-year old Bryant Worrell was shot and killed by the city police. He was shot in his back as his horrified mother screamed for the police not to kill him.

Earlier that evening, brother Bryant was the victim of an attack in his home by five men. Trying to get help, his mother called the police to come to their assistance. Instead of looking for the attackers, the police focused their attention on the Worrell family.

Bryant, a mentally challenged young man, became afraid when the police became physical with him as they frisked him. Onlookers could see the police grab the young brother by his throat as they questioned him.

Fearing for his life, Bryant ran away from the police. Police Officers shot and hit him in the back. He continued running until he fell in a nearby neighbor’s back yard.

Once found by the police, they refused to call the paramedics to save his life. Instead his family was hauled off to the police department to keep them from seeing what was being done at the scene of his death.

The Policy of Police Containment Does Not Work!

The policy of police containment attempts to answer all the problems in the African community with more police and prison.

It is a hostile police tactic that condones harassment, brutality and murder of black people in the name of seeking justice. It plays on the fear people have in the community about crime but never addresses the roots of crime: limited economic development and inferior public education.

The police do not serve and protect African people, instead they treat us all as criminals and suspects. African people are given no respect by the police no matter what their age. Black people are often arrested or brutalized by the police, even when they are the ones who called for help!

Baltimore City police have the greenlight by city hall to attack the whole African community without fear of punishment. The police have arrested children as young as 7-year-old Gerard Mungo Jr for sitting on a dirtbike and terrorized seniors like Liberty Bridges and Annie Chambers in their own homes.

The police have murdered black people throughout the city without facing charges. We have lost: 14-year-old Kevin Cooper, Lornell Wilkins who was shot 21 times by the police, Preston Barnes, Larry Hubbard, Coby Brown and Edward Lamont Hunt to name a few.
